Online Classes: The Future is Now
Online education is rapidly becoming mainstream. Most of Course Advisor’s partnership schools offer online classes and programs. There are many excellent online degree and professional certificate programs available, with computer-based education expanding quickly.
According to the Sloan Consortium, an association of institutions and organizations dedicated to helping learning organizations continually improve the quality, scale, and breadth of their online education, more than 2.6 million students were studying online in the fall of 2004—a solid increase over the year before. The growing enrollment is only expected to accelerate. The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), an 80-year-old standard setting and accreditation agency for correspondence study and distance education, came to similar conclusions in 2004. The academic institutions they surveyed welcomed the dramatic growth of online learning and testified to the great need for this convenient, flexible (and relatively inexpensive) education method in the face of the 21st century’s hectic lifestyle demands.
Aside from user-friendly technology, one of the reasons why online education is evolving so successfully may be that many online students are in their mid-thirties, and most are employed professionals seeking to expand their knowledge base, add to their professional qualifications, and enhance or change their careers.
